Privacy Policy
This policy covers redfedorabooks.com and the Red Fedora Books app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It is written plainly because the people it protects are children and their grown‑ups.
The short version
- The app collects nothing at all. No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting. It makes no network requests. The books travel inside the app.
- The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
- The only personal information we ever receive is the email address of someone who buys a book, because that is how the book reaches them.
- We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We never have.
Children’s privacy
Our books are written for readers of roughly five to ten years old, and both the website and the app are made to be enjoyed by children. We take that seriously, and the simplest protection we can offer is the one we have chosen: we do not collect personal information from children at all.
- The app collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. Nothing is written to the device and nothing is sent anywhere.
- The website collects no personal information from anyone browsing it. There is no sign‑up, no comment box, no profile and no form a child could fill in.
- Buying a book is a grown‑up’s task. Purchases are made through Stripe’s secure checkout, and we ask that a parent or guardian make them.
- We never make a child’s access to any part of our books, website or app depend on giving us more information than we need. Since we ask for none, that is none.
- Because we collect no personal information from children, we have none to disclose to anyone else, and none is disclosed.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe we somehow hold information about your child, you may ask us what we hold, ask us to delete it, and refuse any further collection. Email us at the address below and we will answer. We will not require you to prove more than is reasonably needed to confirm you are the child’s parent.
If we ever change the app or the website so that personal information is collected from children, we will obtain verifiable parental consent before doing so, and we will update this policy first.
The app
The Red Fedora Books app is a self‑contained storybook. It contains no accounts, no sign‑in, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third‑party software development kits of any kind. It makes no network requests, so nothing about your reading can travel anywhere. Where you are in a book is held in the app’s memory for as long as it is open, and is not written to your device.
If you buy or download the app, that transaction happens between you and Apple or Google. We receive sales figures from them, never your identity. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies.
The website
What the website keeps in your browser
We set no cookies. The site stores four small preferences in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device, they are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
rfb-calm: whether you asked for reduced motionrfb-sound: whether ambient sound is on or offrfb-visited: whether you have been here before, so we can let you skip the entrancerfb.passport.v1: which of Gus’s journeys you have opened, so his passport remembers its stamps
No analytics, no advertising
There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no social media tracker and no data broker on this site. We do not know who you are, how you got here or where you go next.
Buying a book
Payments are handled by Stripe. When you buy, you enter your email address and payment details on Stripe’s own secure checkout page. Card numbers never reach our servers and we never see them.
Stripe passes us your email address, which book you bought, the amount and the time of purchase. We use that to deliver your book, to help you if something goes wrong, and to keep the accounting and tax records the law requires of us.
Your EPUB arrives as a private email link, sent through Resend.
We send transactional email only: your book, and any reply to a message you send us. Every such email carries a one‑click link to a preferences page where you can change what you receive. We do not need an account to honour that.
Links to booksellers
Some pages link to retailers such as Books2Read, Books.by and Barnes & Noble. Once you follow one of those links you are on their website, under their privacy policy, not ours.
Who else touches your information
Four service providers, each acting on our instructions and for no purpose of their own:
- Stripe for payment processing
- Resend for delivering your book by email
- Supabase for running the small functions that create a checkout and send a delivery link
- Hostinger for hosting this website
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross‑context behavioural advertising. We do not give it to data brokers, advertising networks or anyone who wants to market to you.
How long we keep things
Purchase and delivery records are kept for as long as we may need them to support you and to satisfy accounting and tax obligations, and then deleted. Email preference records are kept so that we can honour your preference. Everything else described above never reaches us in the first place.
Your choices
You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it. Email us at the address below. We answer every such request, and we do not charge for it.
If you are in California: we do not sell or share personal information, we do not offer financial incentives in exchange for it, and we do not use it for profiling. Exercising any right described here will never mean worse service.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area: we handle your email address to perform our contract with you (delivering the book you bought), to pursue our legitimate interests in supporting customers and preventing fraud, and to comply with legal obligations such as tax records. You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your national supervisory authority.
Keeping it safe
The site is served over HTTPS with a strict content security policy. Payment details never touch our servers. We deliberately collect as little as possible, because information we never hold cannot be lost. No system is perfect, and we do not pretend otherwise.
Changes to this policy
The version and effective date sit at the top of this page. If we make a material change we will say so here and update both. If a change would ever involve collecting personal information from children, we will obtain verifiable parental consent before it takes effect.
